With the recent release of version 2.2, Local Haze subscribers can now conveniently view air quality information with Home Screen widgets and opt to receive notifications for significant air quality changes from specific sensors.

About Local Haze:

  • Local Haze compiles air quality details from a range of sensors, such as PurpleAir, Sensor.Community, uRADMonitor, AirNow, and the U.S. Department of State. Apart from accessing real-time air quality conditions, utilizing Local Haze enables users to share sensor maps showcasing air quality data worldwide.
  • The World Health Organization and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have set guidelines for safe air quality concerning chemical pollutants and particulate matter (PM). Local Haze focuses on displaying the levels of PM 2.5 particles, which pose a significant health risk due to their ability to enter the bloodstream.

Adding a Local Haze widget:

  • Obtain a quick overview of your preferred AQ sensor whenever you glance at your phone. By simply tapping, you can access detailed AQ sensor information efficiently, thus saving time and reducing the need for extensive scrolling or searching for specific AQ sensor data. For instructions on setting up a Local Haze widget, please refer to: this page.

Notifications in Local Haze:

  • Subscribers can configure notifications by selecting the bell icon on any PurpleAir, Sensor.Community, uRADMonitor, or AirNow sensor detail screen within the application. Notifications will be dispatched to your device when there are alterations in air quality.

Display of Air Quality Data by Local Haze:

  • Local Haze exhibits the EPA's Air Quality Index (AQI) along with a confidence rating for each sensor reading. This unique feature, the confidence rating in Local Haze is determined by factors like sensor maintenance and data currency.
  • The subsequent key describes how each AQ sensor reading is portrayed, with a badge denoting a confidence rating in the lower right corner:
    • Green Face: Represents Good air quality.
    • Yellow Face: Indicates Moderate air quality.
    • Orange Face: Denotes Unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups.
    • Red Face: Signifies Unhealthy air quality for everyone.
    • Black face mask with a respirator: Indicates Hazardous air quality.
Note: The aforementioned AQ index categorization source is from Air Quality Index (AQI) Basics - EPA: this link.
